A young adult professional whom’ strives to decolonize his practice, wherever he goes, and to revitalize his Cultural ways of Knowing within his lines of work.

Johnny Oum aims to incorporate his Indigenous Culture within his work; he believes that his Traditional practices will add a layer of Community, while maintaining that workplace professionalism. Johnny is an ambitious, passionate, positive and Community-oriented individual. Johnny aspires to empower Indigenous, Remote, & Rural communities in establishing their own Land Use & Community Plans. Throughout his years of academic work, Johnny carries over two years of experience in Urban & Regional Planning. He has undertaken positions in fulfilling programs at the Administrative Assistant Level. Johnny has worked with both Community and Governmental Stakeholders. Johnny has conducted surveys, Community engagements, drafted Community plans, acted as a liaison between Indigenous Communities and government officials, worked on Permit and Lease compliance under the Indian Act, served as a Deputy Electoral Officer within Indian Band elections, processed Indian Monies & Estates, and has conducted research on Northern Planning. Aside from his academic professional works, Johnny has a strong interest in Indigenous Community Planning, and his Peoples’ histories. He says “I always do it for the Youth. I want to show future generations that if I can do it, or if I can get through it, they can too!”

Johnny is also a Knowledge Keeper and an Educator on Settler Colonialism, the Indigenous Worldview and Anti-Racism. Johnny both facilitates and assists in workshops pertaining to Indigenous Cultural Awareness.
